Connecting - Resilience - Indigenous Truth & Reconciliation (Grades 5-7)

This resource consists of seven units that include high-quality articles & activities that can be used by someone with little or no prior knowledge or understanding of Indigenous Peoples or subjects.

Teachers will be able to instruct with confidence and with the option to teach everything or just select lessons from the books.

This resource embodies the following values & ideas:

- An Indigenous worldview that expresses people’s need to develop themselves in a way that addresses spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental gifts

- A teaching & healing process that is interconnected and cyclical in nature

- Indigenous knowledge from various Indigenous Nations

- Words of encouragement

- Fresh insights and learning activities for key Indigenous celebrations and events

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

- Reconciliation is about change, justice, respect, empathy, understanding, and & re-building the relationships between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples in Canada

- Knowledge about important, challenging, & sensitive topics

- Capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect

- It is critical to be educated about the Truth of the past so that we can build a future that embraces our differences and responds to the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls-To-Action.
